NOAA’s Initial 2024 Forecast: Prepare for a Busy Hurricane Season

NOAA has released its first 2024 Atlantic hurricane season forecast, predicting an above-normal season. With factors like near-record warm ocean temperatures and La Niña conditions, there is an 85% chance of heightened activity. The forecast anticipates 17-25 named storms, 8-13 hurricanes, and 4-7 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher).

This follows the CSU forecast from April, indicating ongoing concern for increased hurricane activity.

NOAA will update the 2024 Atlantic seasonal outlook in early August, just before the historical peak of the season.
